Nils Mönkemeyer | l'arte del mondo | Werner Ehrhardt

Christmas musical splendour with Antonio Vivaldi & Arvo Pärt
Unfortunately, the prolific Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi did not compose any concertos for the viola. Fortunately, however, there is Nils Mönkemeyer, who now plays two Vivaldi concertos arranged for viola with such fervour that they sound like original works! The heartfelt, floating cult piece »Fratres« is also fitting for Christmas, with which the violist and the ensemble l'arte del mondo congratulate the great Estonian composer Arvo Pärt on his 90th birthday.
The ensemble, which specialises in historical performance practice, also presents two symphonic gems from the 18th century under the baton of its founder Werner Ehrhardt. One is by Joseph Martin Kraus, who was also known as the »Schwedische Mozart« (Swedish Mozart). The other was composed by Joseph Aloys Schmittbaur in 1776, shortly after his appointment as Kapellmeister at Kölner Dom.
