“Music is made for people who ask questions,” believes Teodor Currentzis, whose ability to develop an aura of mystery before igniting the real music sparks transcends that of almost all other conductors of our times. Currentzis is an award-winning, eccentric perfectionist who, together with his wonderful orchestra MusicAeterna, has in recent years transformed the regional opera house in the remote Ural city of Perm into one of world standing. Now he is bringing his orchestra and some of that operatic splendour to Cologne, to conduct concert performances of Giuseppe Verdi's “La traviata” and “Aida” as well as a performance of Verdi's peerless Messa da Requiem.
