“A star is born,” marvelled the Tiroler Tageszeitung when describing the 23-year-old Austrian violin virtuoso Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, praising him as a “violin singer of indescribably pure soulfulness.” The Süddeutsche Zeitung recently ascribed “virtuoso elegance, rhythmic charm and an unusual instinct for tonal colour” to his performance. At Cologne’s Philharmonie, where he introduced himself a year ago as a “Rising Star”, the winner of multiple awards turns to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3. This work, combining elegance, playfulness, pain and grace, marks the ultimate mastery of the concerto form by Mozart, then not yet 20 years of age. This classical jewel is framed by an inventive, neo-classicist symphonic work by Bohuslav Martinů and the heroic, yet self-ironic tone poem Ein Heldenleben by Richard Strauss, guaranteeing a colourfully luxuriant sound experience.
