All beginnings are hard. All beginnings? Not in music! This season the Kölner Philharmonie is again offering its popular and trusted introductory selection: six hand-picked concerts spanning all genres, styles and eras. With such a variety of music on offer, it's ideal for anyone trying to decide what appeals to them. An organ concerto with orchestral accompaniment or chamber music by Mozart, Weber and Brahms, captivating modern baroque interpretations by French ensemble Concert d’Astrée or a highly charged mix of blues, jazz, gospel, soul, reggae and Afrobeats with guitarist and singer Eric Bibb. Ensemble Modern's thoroughly contemporary repertoire features a host of brand new compositions, and the series ends on a thrilling note with a performance of Gustav Mahler's 2nd Symphony by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under its new chief conductor Lahav Shani. The diversity of this concert series should help everyone to find their niche and to develop a very personal and sustained affiliation with the Philharmonie concert hall. Philharmonie for Beginners – music that could really get you hooked.
