Classics in this context doesn't mean music from the cultural historical era between Haydn and Beethoven, at least not in the narrow sense. It means any music that is so superb it's considered timeless, music that stays in the memory beyond its own present and will continue to have meaning for generations to come – music that makes history. This accolade definitely applies to the work of such established ensembles as the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and the radio symphony orchestras, and without question to soloists like Mitsuko Uchida, Leif Ove Andsnes and Hélène Grimaud, who have been achieving extraordinary feats in concert halls and recording studios for decades. In the company of such acclaimed performers, Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki might seem exceptionally young at only 24 years of age but he too has already amply demonstrated his formidable talents and promises to fulfil the very highest expectations. The programme for this 7-part concert series ranges from Mozart right up to contemporary compositions. It's all music you have to have heard and experienced, performed by artists who set the standards. Classics one and all!
